THE ASTON MARTIN DB AR1

Aston Martin teamed up with the legendary coachbuilder Zagato in 2002 to create a limited production grand touring car, following the wildly successful DB4GT fo the 1960’s and the Vantage V8 of the 1980’s. Using the Aston Martin DB7 as the base, two new models were created: The DB7 Zagato, a coupe that was built for the European and Asian markets, and the DB AR1, or America Roadster, built specially for the American market. Although the DB7 was already a beautiful car, Zagato delivered ona spectacular design that is considered by many to be two of the most attractive Aston Martins ever produced. Only 99 examples each of the coupe and roadster models were built.  The roadster debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2002 and was so well received that all 99 examples we purchased immediately.

The DB AR1 is a true roadster, with no top available; it is however equipped with two factory-supplied umbrellas. The engine is a more powerful version of the 6.0-liter Vanquish V12, producing 435 HP. Performance is impressive, with 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph, making the car the world’s fastest true roadster. The DB AR1 has a large distinctive radiator grille and accentuated rear wheel arches, which flow gracefully into the trademark Zagato “double bubble” fairings behind each seat.

THIS CAR

This rare Aston Martin is serial number 008 of the 99 car production run, and comes with a commemorative plaque showing the serial number built into the door sills.  Finished in the distinctive color of Pentland Green with Light Tan leather interior, the car is breathtaking from any angle. It has had only two registered owners and less than 2,000 documented original miles from new.

Standard features are what you would expect from a modern supercar, including ABS brakes, traction control, limited slip differential and power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering. It also includes luxury standard features such as electronically controlled sports seats, six-speaker Becker AM/FM/CD stereo radio cassette system with 6-CD changer and air conditioning. Options ordered from the factory include Touchtronic automatic transmission, colored brake calipers, embroidered floor mats, powerfold side mirrors, satellite navigation system, aluminum switches, and onboard fire extinguisher and first aid kit. This car has been exceptionally maintained from new and presents as-new in all respects.

The Aston Martin V12 engine has an exciting exhaust note thanks to the active sports exhaust system with rear muffler bypass valves. The automatic transmission has a manual shift mode that allows upshifts from either the floor mounted shifter or from buttons on the steering wheel. Braking is supplied by Brembo four-wheel discs and the Vanquish V12 brake booster for a firm and consistent brake pedal feel.

Aston Martin and Zagato have collaborated on some iconic designs in the past, and this exceptional roadster is a beautiful example of what has become a highly collectible, limited production Aston Martin.
